Nonprofit sustainability lies in committed, passionate leaders coming together with a shared understanding of the organization’s business model. Effective leaders use that collective insight to make strategic decisions that adjust to the dynamic environment and constituent needs.

This interactive training introduces the matrix map, a visual tool used to guide your leadership in making decisions that drive exceptional impact in a financially viable manner. The matrix map allows board and staff to understand their organization by integrating mission impact and financial viability in a way that enables them to frame choices and make the adjustments and investments necessary to strengthen the business model. Learn the key concepts and then leave with a tool you can use immediately to engage staff and board in the pursuit of nonprofit sustainability.

At the conclusion of this session you will:

  • Understand the concepts of sustainability, the nature of nonprofit business models and how their activities work together to create a sustainable organization.
  • Be able to analyze your business model and articulate the strategic inquiries to strengthen it based on the matrix map.
  • Complete a draft matrix map and identify preliminary strategic inquiries to strengthen your organization’s business model.

To maximize the benefit of this session, staff members should be accompanied by at least two or three board members but having four or more will make a world of difference.
